Glossary

API

Application Programming Interface. A standard or specification that allows a portion of one's software or application to be opened for integration with outside software or applications.

ASP

Application Service Provider. A business that provides applications or services via the Internet.

CMS

Content Management System. Using notation like HTML and CSS to edit web pages requires specialized knowledge. CMS systems make it possible to edit web pages by uploading images and entering text directly from the management screen, without the need for such expertise.

CX

Customer Experience. The experience and psychological/sensory value customers get from interacting with companies and brands. This includes, not only the monetary and material value related to the purchase and use of products and services, but the entire experience, including sales promotion and after sales service.

DX

Digital Transformation. How companies use data and digital technologies to establish a competitive advantage in response to drastic changes in the business environment. This entails transforming their products, services, and business models based on the needs of customers and society, as well as transforming their organization, processes, corporate culture, and the business itself. OMO

Abbreviation for Online Merges with Offline. A marketing strategy that enables offline user behaviour to be digitised and integrated online to improve the UX (User experience).

POS

Point Of Sale Management. A system or management method used in the retail industry for collecting and recording product information on a per-item basis at the point in time that the product is sold or paid for. This allows retailers to monitor product sales information and conduct sales and stock management based on it.

SaaS

Software as a Service. A style of software provision in which users utilize software that runs on the provider's server via the Internet, as opposed to installing and using software directly on their own devices.

UX

User Experience. The experience a user has when using a product or service. This once referred only to the experience of using (man-made) physical items, but now also refers to things such as services.

Interface

Originally referred to interfaces such as boundaries and contact surfaces, but in the context of computing, has come to mean a standard or specification for connecting a computer to peripheral components. It can also mean the method or concept by which a user interacts with a computer.

Open Cloud

A style of providing/utilizing collaborative cloud services, through use of open source cloud infrastructure software, which avoids being limited to a specific vendor providing the service in question.

On-Premises

A style of handling information systems such as hardware and software that entails the user preparing, using, and operating such systems on their own.
